Individual Therapy

The therapeutic process is unique for each person. My aim is to find the right fit of therapeutic style for you and your life. I offer a neutral and compassionate space where all concerns, feelings and somatic responses (body sensations) are valid. I have experience in topics including anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, struggling with life balance, relationship or communication issues, panic, self-injury, suicidal ideation, issues resulting from historical or recent trauma, as well as concussion and recovery.

Initiating therapy is a big step and can feel quite scary. The first step involves a brief chat between you and I so that we can both get a sense of whether we’re a good fit for each other, and so that I can get a better understanding of what is bringing you here. The next step is booking a face-to-face or online session where we will get to know each other and develop a therapeutic contract - what are we here to resolve? From there, we will decide together how that might look and how often we should meet.

It is my obligation as a psychologist to keep your best interests at the centre of our work, which means I will not keep you in therapy longer than needed.

Cognitive & Psych-educational Assessments

A cognitive assessment involves a thorough evaluation of a student’s general intelligence. This is often for the purpose of gaining admittance into programs requiring IQ scores.

A psych-educational assessment is a more in-depth understanding of a student’s overall functioning. Areas assessed include cognition (general intelligence), processing abilities (memory, speed and fluency), achievement (reading, written language, mathematics), attention, as well as social, emotional, and/or behavioural functioning. Oftentimes, a student’s teacher may suggest a psych-educational assessment to understand what might be preventing their success at school. A psych-educational assessment can help to identify strategies to reduce student stress, increase motivation and self-esteem, improve achievement, and lead to greater support at school.

The assessments follow this general flow of steps:

  1. Phone call with me about presenting concerns and what a psych-educational assessment could help us understand.

  2. Clinical interview with guardian(s), teacher/coach/relevant people in student’s life and student.

  3. Administration and scoring of relevant standardized assessment instruments.

  4. Feedback meeting with guardian(s) and student (depending on student’s age) to explain the assessment results.

  5. Written report integrating background information, current test results, clinical impression and recommendations for learning strategies and supports.
